Obituary of Eileen Dorothy Liebau
Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eileen Dorothy Liebau, age 84, of Watchung, NJ -formerly of North Bergen and Jersey City, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025.
Born on April 2, 1941 in Jersey City, Eileen grew up in the heart of the community that shaped her warm and generous spirit.
She dedicated her early years to raising her family as a devoted stay-at-home mother, later continuing her lifelong love for nurturing children by working at Dayspring Christian Nursery School. Eileen was the heart of her family — known for her strength, compassion, and boundless love.
She was a caregiver at her core, especially during her husband David’s battle with Alzheimer’s, showing remarkable devotion and grace throughout his illness. Their love story was filled with simple joys, including cherished Friday and Saturday nights spent together at their favorite local taverns.
A woman of many passions, Eileen found happiness in the little things: bingo, crossword puzzles, cooking homemade meals, savoring red wine, and singing along to her favorite Doo Wop and 70s hits.
She was an avid reader, a proud New York Mets fan, and an animal lover who adored her pet dogs and cats. Eileen also gave back to her community, volunteering for many years at Sacred Heart Church and School.
She is survived by her loving children: David (Jill), Michael (Erminia), Thomas (Susan), Robert, and Michelle (Daniel); and her cherished grandchildren: Amanda, Thomas, Holly, Christopher, and Alex.
Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, David, and her
granddaughter Vanessa, whose memory she carried in her heart every day.
Eileen’s warmth, laughter, and unwavering love will be missed deeply by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and the enduring bond of family.
Visitation in memory of Eileen will take place on Thursday, April 24th from 4 - 8 PM at the Konopka Funeral Home. After a brief ceremony at 9:30 AM, on Friday, April 25th, we will take Eileen to her final resting place at Fairview Cemetery.
