Charles J. Verhoye, 79, of North Bergen NJ, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, May 9th, 2025.

Charles was born on November 16th, 1945 in Weehawken NJ to parents Dorothy Roth and Mr. Verhoye

His passion for basketball started at a young age, when he attended Weehawken High School. After high school, he played basketball for the University of Emporia Kansas on a scholarship. When college was complete, he was drafted into the Air Force during Vietnam and was stationed in California. Charles served 4 years before returning back home to New Jersey. He then became a bartender and after a few years started working his life-long career as a supervisor for the State of New Jersey Medicaid department in Jersey City.

His love for basketball led him to coach the Sacred Heart basketball team for over 20 years.

Charles met the love of his life, Roberta Votava, in nearby Guttenberg NJ.

They built a strong relationship together that was filled with many trips to Point Pleasant Beach, Hoboken and beyond. Charles and Roberta were married for 45 years.

Charles loved his wife, Roberta, family, friends, fishing and his dog, Ernie.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Roberta Verhoye, nephews, Daniel Cocozza (Ann Marie), Robert Cocozza (Denise), and Frank Grande (Julie). He is also survived by his niece Christina Lynch, great nephews, Trevor Kevin and Timothy Cocozza and great niece, Chelsea Cocozza.

A memorial service for Charles will be held on Thursday, May 15th from 2 – 6 PM at the Joseph Z. Konopka Funeral Home.
