It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Miguel S. Bañarez, 69, of Jersey City, NJ, on July 21, 2025.
Born on August 31, 1954, in Makati City and raised in Paombong, Bulacan, Philippines, to Alberto and Josefa Bañarez, Miguel was a man of unyielding will. In the 1970s, he embarked on a journey to America, a move that laid the foundation for the life he built. He attended FEU High School and pursued engineering at Mapua University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and New York University.
Miguel led a distinguished mechanical and electrical engineering career, taught locally, and built a successful engineering design business. An outstanding chef, he mastered traditional Filipino staples and countless other dishes learned in his parents' restaurant.
An avid fitness enthusiast, Miguel held a black belt in Taekwondo and practiced boxing. His commitment to fitness had taken him across continents, including exploring the Australian outback, fishing in Canada, hiking the Grand Canyon, and nurturing his vibrant backyard garden.
Truly a loving husband and father, Miguel dedicated himself to providing his wife and children with the best life.
He is celebrated and cherished by many relatives and friends across the Philippines and North America.
Miguel is survived by his wife, Yvonne Bañarez (Sr.); his five children, Michael, Robert, Yvonne (Jr.), Christina, and Jennifer; several grandchildren; his sister, Nora Curl, and her daughter.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Aedan’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10 AM EST.
