Lizabeth S. Konopka passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Englewood Health

surrounded by her dear friends. She was born in Jersey City to the late Maryann (nee: Novak)

and Joseph Z. Konopka and was a lifelong resident of North Bergen, NJ.

Liz was the owner and operator of Joseph Z. Konopka Funeral Home, which her mother and

father founded in 1953, and she continued to manage until her brief illness. A graduate of North

Bergen High School, American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service and St. Peter’s

College, she was licensed as a funeral director in 1972. Liz was a Past President of both the

Hudson County Funeral Directors’ Association and New Jersey State Funeral Directors’

Association.

Liz was a role model for women in the funeral profession and her counsel will be missed by her

admiring colleagues.

A devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, North Bergen, she served the

parish community as a Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, member of its Rosary Society,

member of Parish Council and countless other committees.

Liz’s commitment to her community and business was deservedly recognized. She was the first

President of the North Hudson Business and Professional Women’s Club, the 1984 Pulaski

Association of Police and Fire Departments Business Woman of the Year, a recipient of the

Jubilee Medal from the Archdiocese of Newark for her service to Sacred Heart, a recipient of the

Polish Welfare Council of Cliffside Park and Fairview Service award and numerous additional

honors. She was also a devoted member and Past President of the Lyons Club of Fairview.

Liz is survived by many loving cousins, dear friends, and adoring colleagues.

The community which she served was her life and is her legacy and as were her wishes, the

funeral home and its service to the surrounding areas will continue on in her family’s name.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 4:00

p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Roman

Catholic Church on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Fairview
